I'm having a little problem with my 02 nissan sentra
when I drive on the highway all of a sudden the gas peddle feels tight, like I have to push it all the way just so the speedometer reachs 60mph. then after a while I sometimes smell burning for a couple of minutes. I tried pulling over and starting it up again. when I do that its fine for a little while until I try to get up to 60mph+

Sounds like your catalytic convertor is probably stopped up and not letting the exhaust get out of your engine properly.
Take it to an exhust shop and have it checked. They have a way to check it.
To replace one is usealy around two hundred dallar range in most places.
Check with autozone and advance auto for a price for this for your car and model, call and tell them what you have and they will look it up and give you a price and then you have to add installment price to that.

I must agree with skunk. Get to an exhaust shop. You will damage your engine if you continue to drive
