I have older (70's) relation nearBrownsville Tx who need people to come and help them. One needs a hip replacement and the other has lost one leg. Social service said they were not elegable for anything and would have to come and wait in line to see someone. I just wonder if the state really doesn't care about older people.

They are elligible for medicare, afederal health care benefit through the Social Security Administration. There may be some state agencies that can help, but most are usually overbooked for appointments.

Medicare is federal - not "local" ...yes they probably are on Medicare -- it probably won't cover everything though. This country is sad (I'm in it -- I KNOW) --- no insurance myself and have issues to deal with.
