No one really knows, but that intrepid explorer could have come along the interior of the continent several million years ago, could have arrived by sea along what is now the Aleutian Islands, which millions of years ago would have been a solid land bridge, or could have arrived by sea from the South Pacific. There is evidence to support all three theories, and in truth, it is quite possible the earliest humans to arrive in the New World could have used all three routes.
