Because it's not supposed to be easy; you have a Choice. If the Superego always won, you'd be an automaton.
And if it were louder, other people might hear it coming out of your ears and that could be frightening.

well the little angel on the shoulder slaps harder the louder the voice gets so unless you want to be knocked out cold shhhhhhhhh is better ouch :)

Because if it was louder, we'd never have any fun. Plus, it saves on all those embarrassing moments in public where you stand around and argue with yourself.

Mine has taken to writing me notes. The most amazing thing is that my little voice's handwriting looks just like my wife's!

Put it on loudspeaker rather than mute. Now, step away from the double fudge cheeescake and there won't be any trouble. Just put down that fork and keep your hands where I can see them.
