The McCann's go to the Anglican church. They're not catholic. They did all the catholic thing while they were in Portugal, because Portugal is obsessed with that kind of rituals.

I don't know if Gerry is a Freemason, but I know that Jose Manuel Anes - the portuguese criminologist who's investigating the case - is a Freemason. Check out his website ;)

The body of this question is a highly insulting and in very bad taste. As I would hope that when any child goes missing that "people in high places" would fall over themselves to help.

As cl_freemason has said, if he is guilty then he'll go to prison (if he is a Freemason or not) and rightly so. If he is a Freemason not only will he go to prison he will also be "expelled" from Freemasonry. Freemasonry demands that the laws of the land are never to be broken.

Thats a really good question and would explain a lot. I don't know much about Freemasons although I do know someone who is one. As for being Catholic and Freemason yes it is allowed don't know if was in the past but is now. Trouble is Freemasonry is still regarded as being very secretive so we may never know. Still good question have a star ********

it is irrelevant. if he is guilty he should go to prison, it does not matter if he is a freemason or not. the rules of freemasonry prohibit the kind of favoritism that is prevalent in this question and many of the responses. if any freemasons are involved in a crime, cover up or other similar act, they would be thrown out of the Craft and should go to prison.

I have heard this.

Would it make a difference? Yes I beleive it would, not with the police as they now have to register and aren't allowed to work on a case where there would be a conflict of interest, but with those that flock around you in a time of need, a lot of very influential people.

* Being Catholic doesn't prevent you from being a freemason, not around here anyway.

i think you'll find that he's more likely to be a member of Opus Dei, and that would explain why they are getting so much backing.

I think you have got Masons today slightly wrong. Masons would help anyone with problems. If he is he will be receiving some great friendship and help if not I am sure his local lodge would help. No I am not a Mason.

Get a life, it would not make any difference at all to the case and to the fact that he and his wife left their kids alone. He is a well paid member of the medical profession, it would be very different if it was a single Mum who lived on a council estate in this situation.

Is he Catholic? From what I recall hearing you can't be Catholic and a Freemason.
