I recently remodled our bathroom on the first floor of our house. I pulled the toilet to lay new ceramic tile. I replaced that toilet, all hardware and had to replace the faucet that feeds the toilet. In short, an upstairs bathroom stinks since we remodled the downstairs bathroom. The bathroom that smells of sewage is a bathroom we use frequently. The bathroom is clean and I cannot find evidence of the sink, toilet or shower drain leaking. What could be causing the smell and how do we fix it?

You can make sure the wax seal on the toilet is new and tight. Sometimes when you replace the toilet over a thicker floor, it leaves a gap that sewer gases can escape from, that's the first thing I'd look for. Then make sure the vent pipe is open and clear.
You ought to call a plumber after that as professional help might be needed.

I cannot think of anything that would cause this that would be related to the remodel downstairs. Normally, a sewage smell is due to a broken wax seal under a toilet. It may not show a leak but the gas can infiltrate the air. Check all the fixtures upstairs to make sure there is water in the traps.

If the sink drains slowly, you could have alot of sludge in the P-trap.

it could be from the drains also. sometimes smell can come from them. stack pipe could be plugged. sometimes animals like to nest in these pipes.
