If it is 1 / (4 y ²) then:-
( 4 y ² )^(-1) is answer.

If it is (1/4) y ² then:-
4^(-1) y ² is the answer.

PS
Use brackets to avoid confusion!

is it just the y that is squared or the 1/4y?
I think 1/y=y^(-1) if that helps (one over y equals y to the power of minus 1)

It is impossible to rewrite the expression 1/4y^2 to anything else, unless you put it into an equation.

To the dude above me: That would give the reciprocal (f(x) = x^-1) as opposed to the inverse (f(x) = 1/x), which we want.

You question doesn't make sense.

If it was x = 1/(4y^2) ... that could be rearranged.

1/(4y^2) cannot be anything else as we don't know the value of y.
