Your landlord is bound by the same terms that you are. If you are on a month-to-month lease, he must provide 30 days notice of any changes. If you are on a year's lease, he must abide by the terms until the end of the 12-month period.
You may want to contact your local landlord/tenant authority for help.

No. He has to give you the option of accepting the rent increase, or rejecting it and moving out. And, you must be given a 30-day notice of eviction. So, your landlord should have given you a 30-day notice of rent increase that says to accept it or move out within 30 days.

The landlord has to give you time to either prepare for the increase, or move--unless he's doing this purposely to force you out. Tenants have certain rights that must be upheld. Check with your local housing authority, for free advise.

If your leased ended yes, but you have to get a new lease first and sign and agree to it, but if you pay him the new amount via check or money order or something then that means you agree to the new rent increase. Be wise, if you don't wanna pay it don't sign nothing. However if he raised it by 40 dollars per month or something that seems fair.
