I am an office manager for a construction company, and yes, it can be done unless you have a contract with your employer.
Even if your hourly rate is less than your salary, with the extra hours of over time, you might actually make more in the long run.
You will just have to sit down and figure it all out for yourself and decide on what you want to do and if the extra hours away from your family will be worth it. The only thing you can do if you don't like it, is to find yourself another job.
Sorry, good luck..

Yes they can. If you were on salary and now are hourly and your hours are increased you had a great job. Will your overtime make up the difference? Arkansas is a right to work state. They can pretty much do what they want unless you were under contract. Not likely here in Arkansas.

In reality he/she/they/it can do whatever he/she/they/it feel they can. However in reality you also have recourses depending on you industry. But for most salaried positions this little trick will work. Get paper work together of hours pay and all that good stuff, if you happen to have any in office memos/emails that detail this unfair change and take them dirrectly to the supervisor above the person in charge of making those changes, lay it out let he/she/they/it know that you know whats going on. But before doing this contact someone a lawyer preferably better yet a comapny lawyer and ask around about the laws where you live because things like this vary from state to state. I have had to do this a severla jobs in the past for various issues and I always got a favorable response. hope it helps.

Do they have a contract stating they will be salaried at a certain pay rate? If not, then the employer can do this. Sucks don't it? Just have to find a new job.

Unless you are in a union with a collective bargaining agreement, or you have a contract with the employer, then yes they can. it sucks, but thats the way that the US works. youll probably need to get a new job, or just accept the changes.
