There are several Pigmy tribes where it is common practice for the men to allow very young children to latch on. Coincidentally, these tribes tend to be the most peaceful/nonviolent people in the world.

A survey in Australia overwhelmingly indicated that people considered this practice to be child abuse.

No. My husband has allowed my son to latch on a couple of times in the past when I was not there and my son needed the comfort. He wasn't getting any food, obviously, but was just wanting the comfort. Better than a screaming baby. But hubby was in so much pain he decided that wasn't such a good idea for him...lol.

Look I think that is more than child abuse it is sick. Men don't produce milk so there is NO reason a child so be a mans nipple. Theonly reason why its okay for wemen is because they actually produce milk. What kind of person would even wonder such a thing????

I have heard of men lactating and I have to say finally! Men should share some responsibility, since they can't give birth. No its not abuse if he is actually trying to breastfeed.

If you want an idea of breastfeeding, do this:
Mash your nipples. Now take sandpaper and rub rub rub until you just can't stand it. Now, mash again. Now try doing all of this 8 times a day in between seeing professional colleagues in a business meeting, uptight in laws, making dinner and your jealous drooling dog pawing at the baby. Now set your alarm for every two hours tonight and repeat the mashing sandpaper routine. You are practically a pro..just keep it up for 6 months to a year....Not very glamorous. Nursing is a labor of love. By all means, I am fine with men nursing their infants! If men lactated and nursed we would have laws protecting nursing parents & infants, and it wouldn't be shamed or hidden like it sometimes is...There would be nursing marathons on ESPN.

i'd love it if my husband could take over breastfeeding.. providing he actually produced milk lol

you know i've heard that the drug pitocin they give to women to induce labor can cause men to lactate.. that thought just amuses me.. i don't know if its actually true though!

It would seem not.

However, seeing as 'abuse' is defined as a *corrupt* practice, it would depend how the male breastfeeding was used as to whether it was ABuse or not.

well if that was possible that would mean they could also give birth and that would be awesome don't you think???I don't think that has nothing to be with child abuse!!

If it was for sexual gratification or power yes. The only way it wouldn't be is if he was lactating.
