ok, one time I bought a ring for my mother at wal-mart(when I was younger) and it as a mothers day ring. it was 10k yellow gold. well about a week later, it changed colors...... well last week I saw this absolutely gorgeous ring, it was an engagement ring, and I fell in love with it. I told my boyfriend that I wanted it.... but not from wal-mart because of my previous experiance. this ring is 14k with 1/2 a karat of diamonds in it.... I have looked everywhere for about 2 months for the same ring or something simular to it... there is nothing.. Should I get him to buy it for me anyways, or do you think it will change colors?? I HATE when jewelry changes colors!

Solid gold does not change colors. Maybe the original ring was gold filled or plated.

The best place to buy jewelry is from one of the many small dealers in a large jewelry mart. They have very low overhead. Items at Wal-Mart are marked up at least 400%.

It changes color because it's not real gold. I wouldn't recommend shopping for something as important as an engagement ring at Wal-Mart or stores similar to it because you do risk it changing colors. If you don't see it at other stores, I would ask a local jeweler how much it would cost to recreate the ring. Usually it's pretty affordable as long as it isn't too intricate such as infusing different types of gold or using different gems.

My husband has always bought my wedding rings from Walmart. He gets me a set every year until I made him stop.If its 10k real gold and not plated it should not change colors. And do not bleach it.Then it will break.Mine have never changed colors. So you can get that ring or take a picture of that ring and go to a jeweler and have one ade like that one.A lot of jewelers will make rings if you show them what you want. But since the ring you want is 14k gold it should be ok and not change colors.Make sure its not plated gold and see if they offer warranties on it.A lot of times they do,so if something happens to it they have to replace it.

Real gold shouldn't change colors unless she put her hand in some sulfer water, if it was plated or filled. Real gold will fade and it can be scratched, it also can where thin. You can get it polished and a lot of the fading will come off. Buy the rings if they start to change color take them back and demand a refund.

The ring you bought your mother was proabaly 10k yellow gold PLATED or OVERLAY. Find out if your dream ring is gold througout and you should be fine. You can also see if walmart gives some sort of warranty on their fine jewelry. I always buy gold hoop earrings from walmart and they never change color.

Do you have a Target around? I bought a pair of earrings there a few years ago and they still look beautiful. I bought a small pair of 14K white gold hoop earrings. I paid around $25 for them.

I would go to a better jewelry store for a wedding ring. Shop around.

Go to a reputable jeweler when buying a nice piece of jewelry. That is the rule of thumb. Get a recommendation from a friend or family friend.

Just because it's from wal-mart doesn't mean it's bad. Gold shouldn't change colours, you should have brought it back and seen what was wrong with it. But gold shouldn't change colours, that is weird. Something had to have been wrong with it.

Check out bluenile.com - better quality @ excellent prices.

Avoid Walmart - the jewelry isn't going to hold up in the long run.
