I'd like to be in one, although being raised in a monogamous one, I have a hard time conceptualizing how it would work. I'd worry about favoring one over the other, vice versa if I was a second or third husband.
While some parts would take getting used to, it would be nice to have another adult or two to help with the house and kids, in that many hands make light work when you ALL share the tasks.

I think in the sense that there is more variety outside of monogamy, yes. In theory it sounds pretty awesome to have several people to love and to love you.
In actual practice, no. I don't think people who are monogamous are monogamous simply because that is how society wants them to be. If you don't want to be monogamous in this country you don't have to be.
Monogamy comes with a certain amount of security. People naturally crave that security.

Only people like Joseph Smith, who started up a cult so he and his friends could get laid by 20+ stupid women.
Polygynous societies have BIG social problems, stemming from the large number of disenfranchised young men hanging around who could never get married. Check your Old Testament. If the disenfranchised young men weren't sent off to war (see Joshua), they'd form rape gangs or engage in aggressive homosexuality (check out the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, among others).

As a woman I don't think it's such a bad thing, I would sometimes appreciate a close female friend, someone to help with the housework and take over the kids sometimes.
Some men must like the idea.

I think not. We all love our own culture. I think it is illogical for us to get envy while your free to practice different culture.

Most do not envy them because they feel their way is the only way and everyone should be doing it the way they do.

One wife is enough for me. I think it takes a particular kind of insanity to have a polygamous relationship.
