My friend says they should because it would force America and it's next president to be more world-aware and diplomatic and because what America's president does affects much of the world.
I say they shouldn't because, among other reasons like national security, it would add more special interest lobbyists to prevent anything from ever being agreed upon. For example, we can all guess how most Mexicans would probably vote on the immigration issue.
Solve our argument?

World aware? I think Americans are very aware of the world, it's right below our feet. You can't miss it.

This person can't be serious, our law (Constitution) does not allow for it. No country that I know of allows non-citizens to vote in their elections, why should they. Just because the U.S. is special, does not mean it belongs to everyone in the world.

lol, yeah, that'll be great when votes for the American presidency are open to Iranian citizens. Or how about North Korea? I'm sure they'll pick great leaders for us. Considering I don't know anything about foreign politics, I doubt foreigners know more about ours and so I think they have no business picking our leaders. These decisions affect us more than them, so they should be minding their own leaders (like they currently do).

Plus, your friend is probably neglecting the fact that almost all country's citizens have problems with their leaders. No country has approval ratings higher than 80%. This is human nature, and a large country like the US is ignorant if it expects perfect leaders that more than 80% of the population can rally behind.

You have got to be kidding! Or I guess I should say your friend has got to be kidding! In the first place, we have hard enough time monitoring our own citizens to keep them from doing things they shouldn't at the polls, can you just imagine if we let the world vote. The world does not pay taxes in our country, even the ones who come here to work don't have income taxes out of their pay checks, so of course NOT!!! They would vote for anyone who they think they could defeat and our country would fall before the president was in for even his first month!!!! If I were you, I would carefully consider who I call my friend!!!

No country worth being taken seriously is going to allow a non citizen to vote in it's elections. What would be the point of even having an election if you're going to allow foreigners to have a say in who you elect as your leader ?

Show me a case where an American citizen voted in an election of another country and then I think you will truly have gotten your answer. And the American can not be retired and living in that country either. He can not be a American citizen who has renounced his citizenship to live in another country either.

NO!!! Why should anyone from a foreign nation have any say in our election? This is not their country, they are not citizens of this country and their interests may in fact be in direct conflict with the interests of the citizens of this nation.

People from other countries should focus more on their own leadership to solve their problems, and less on ours. Until we rename the country United States of the Earth, people from other countries aren't going to get to vote in our elections.

I agree with you. I'm not a conservative or anything radical but I do believe that this is our country, so it is our people's responsibility to become more world-aware. That is just as presumtuous as us going into other people's countries and voting for them. We know what's best for us, and we should respect other country's beliefs, norms, and values and let them vote however they want to as well.
