I don't know if you are referring to the recent toy recalls for lead content, but that's a darn good question. I'd like to hope there's some way to melt down the plastic for reuse while extracting the dangerous material. I assume they wouldn't just junk or bury them because then there's still the danger of lead being released into the ground.
As for any other toy, unless they are donated to places like Good Will or Salvation Army, I'd guess the are processed like any other trash and unless recycled, get thrown in a dump or landfill....sad but true.

they might go for recycling!
the most embarrassing fact is there r many ppl in this world who cannot manage to buy a new toy for their children....i have seen alot of poor kids with old n used toys!
i guess there r only two things that can happen to toys which r throne out.....

If thrown out you mean in the garbage they go to the local landfill. Or in some places a big incinerator where they are burnt beyond recognition.
