Why do you want to use a tampon when you're not on your period? This is in fact dangerous to do. If you have heavy discharge, there are extra large/long pantyliners (I know Alldays/Always and Carefree do them) which will take care of the problem.

The only safe way to practise using tampons is when you have your period..

when you first start your period make sure that you have no plans to go out or anything.. and try putting it in at home. Take your time and read the instructions. If you are worried about leakage, wear a pantyliner until you get used to it.

Using tampons while not on your period increases your risk of TSS

You should never use a tampon if you are NOT on your period, you would be risking infection. If you are having the normal discharge that all women get, then use panitliners. If you think that you might have an infection going on, see your gyn.

Use KY Jelly, not water.

As long as you don't leave it in for a long time you will be ok. Leave it in for maybe five minutes.

You should only use tampons when you have discharge.
