I think so for most people. Both may have slight advantages over the other i.e a son may have a little more freedom and a daughter a little more responsibility. But all in all, I think most parents try to treat their children with equal respect.

Often though parents are more strict with the oldest and loosen up with the younger siblings.

Not for me. My brother gets to party and stuff and he is 18. I don't do any of that stuff I am not even allowed to go outside without one of my parents. Strict? I think not.
