And do you ever find yourself counting how many people are in a race when you are at a place?

*the people around me are always like, wow, I've never seen so many {race here} at {place here} before, whenever there is a lot of minorities*

I don't mean count race like numbers... I mean like mentally notice the people of a different race around you. lol

gender. i dont care for race. the only time i notice is when my husband and i go to a new chinese restaurant, my rule if there are a lot of asian people there then the food must be good. other then that no never pay attention. i have to mention though that my husband is black and i am white so for along time i was a minority among people he knows so i have completelly stopped paying attention to race.

I notices gender first probably because I'm checking men out.

I'm Asian so I only note the number of minorities when I'm not a minority. I live in Oregon so I'm use to being a minority. When I go to California, it always surprises me to see so many asians and black people. I went to Oakland for work and there was one white woman in the department which is one of the few times I counted.

Gender sorta, it's hard to pick out a specific trait when I see a person, I just notice "all" of them at once.

And no, I don't count different types of people in a gathering, unless it's unusual for some reason.

Both
Age also springs out, as well as if they're attractive or not. I suppose it's just human nature.

I don't "count" race actively, but I live in a high immigration (mostly muslim) neighbourhood and when I'm the only white person on the street - yes, it does stick out.

That being said, my parents were immigrants too. We just happen to be white.

I usually notice the gender first. Years ago i did a child minding course, and to teach us all about racism they had 2 black guys come in to do a lesson with us. The first question they asked us was 'what was the first thing you noticed about us?' and all the women on the course were saying they first noticed their clothes (they wore really bright waist coasts) and then that they were male .(up till that point all of our teachers had been female) But these 2 guys wouldn't let it rest and kept asking us what we really noticed first. In the end I put my hand up and said that I noticed they were black first (even though i hadn't) because i knew thats what they were implying.

The first things I notice when I look at someone is their gender, race/ethnicity, age, & height in that order.
