The wild card team will not get home field advantage. In 2003 when the Marlins and Cubs played in the NLCS, Marlins were the wild card but with a better record than the Cubs. The Cubs had the home field advantage for that series.

Wild card team will not get a homefield advantage against the Division winner even if wild card team have a better record. Only time wild card team get homefield advantage is when the team goes to World Series and the their league has homefield advantage by winning all star game. Boston Red Sox did it in 2004 as wild card by getting homefield advantage against St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series and won. They would do it again but I don't think Red Sox want to win wild card since they are leading the division. They want to win the division.

The wildcard team never gets the homefield advantage in the Division series or in the League Championship Series. The only time it would be possible is if they go to the World Series and they happen to be the in the same league that won the All-Star game.

I think the question is if a Wildcard team has a better record than A division winner. The answer is, they didn't win THEIR division, therefore they travel. The idea being to make it a rougher road for the wildcard and easier, supposedly, for the division winners.

No. The wildcard teams are seeded #4 regardless of record. No homefield for them.

Not at all... Apparently playing better and winning more games isn't as important as winning a mediocre division...
