School is your only responsibility and you are failing. Your mom works very hard so you can go to school and you are failing her.
Study everyday and then you do not have to kill yourself the day before the test.
73% is poor.

Looks like you snuck over to a computer to ask this question and peek at the answers!
Here's my 2 cents as an adult in my 40s. I have no way of knowing how hard you studied for that test, or waited to cram at the last minute. In most cases, if a child is performing poorly in school (and I consider a C-average poor performance, sorry), I think the parent needs to calmly sit down with the kid and find out what the problems are: Poor time management? Too much distraction? Material too hard? Learning disability? Lack of motivation? Doesn't know how to effectively study? Too much competing work from other classes and after school activities? I think that's a lot more effective and fair than grounding.
I think your mom should work with you to find out what your challenges are and how you can improve. Rather than grounding you, you and she can work together to see that you get a few selected activities in AND have the time to study. Your life needs to be better managed for "work" but I think you need reasonable amounts of play in there.

Science has proven that studying only a few days before a test is not the best way to improve grades. You should have been paying attention in class, taking notes, and knowing that your grades are poor, doing your best well in advance of the test to improve. Judging by the grades before the test, it is obvious that you have been goofing off until now. Maybe if you study more and stop worrying about your social life, things will improve. As a parent, I would have taken away your phone, your dating and maybe even stripped your room of all the fun things in it (TV, CD player, etc.) until you shaped up. A 75 is the C level. Whatever career you were planning, if they see grades below 75, you won't go far. Most colleges won't take students below the 80 (B) level. Wise up now, buckle down and do better. It is in your own best interest.

As a mom myself, I can't answer your question on whether or not you should be grounded because I don't know all of the details leading up to you mom grounding you. My question is this: when you apply yourself and study as hard as you can, do you often get low grades? The reason I am asking is if you study hard and consistently get low grades you could be suffering from a form of dyslexia (which is more then reversing letters and numbers) it has to do with processing information. For example, you study hard and take oral quizzes to prepare and you ace them every time, but when it comes to the written exam, you constantly get low grades. If this seems to be your situation, go to your school counselor and asked to be tested. (This is not an excuse to become lazy and not try) If your counselor will not help go to your parents (you should anyway) and go online to do some research. A lot of teachers and even parents don't realize that dyslexia is more then a simple letter and number reversal. From a mom of a dyslexic student.

There are a lot of people who use self-talk to handle what is going on inside their minds. When self-talk is not monitored cautiously it can lead to drastic effects not only on one’s personality but also affects its mentality and psychology. Self-talk is a type of conversation which we conduct with ourselves. In literature we call it soliloquy. Brain’s reticular activating system never forgets what we repeat again and again. Ironically this system can not recognize what is beneficial to the individual and what is not. Think you can, think you can't; either way, you'll be right- a saying goes like this. Therefore when ever we ‘talk’ with ourselves, we should be cautious, very cautious in fact. There are a lot of audio programs which can help and there are a lot of online books. If I recall there is a book ‘self-talk solutions’ which is every effective in this scenario.

You waited to the last minute to study and failed the test. You need to learn a lesson so i believe that you do need to be grounded you'll appreciate it in the long run.

hmm i used to tell my grandma when I lived along with her that F's have been for impressive lol yet heavily it certainly relies upon on your mothers and fathers. My mothers and fathers might floor me purely through fact they knew i fcked around. yet possibly you're able to make an effort and purely prepare a sprint extra concentration on your education and who's acquainted with possibly they'll see a transformation or a minimum of see you attempting and elevate it early. this is like penitentiary with mothers and fathers, good habit gets you out early! save your head up guy. wish this helps
