That is a tough question. As a teacher myself, I would not want to be the one that has to decide if a child get corporal punishment. But there is a strong case for the motivational power of pain avoidance. Some student achieve and succeed because an internal drive. So students are driven by their parents. Some students aren't driven by any source and as a consequence actively hold others back. Without fear of a consequence they become the bane of educators no matter where they go. Not so long ago the US still accepted corporal punishment in schools. Of course adult who did not use good judgment made it seem as though it was necessary to remove this tool for school management. Much in the same way that it is being removed as a parental tool for child behavior modification. Long story short,(too late I know,) unless the teacher in India are maiming, or killing students their use of corporal punishment is just as effective as the touchie-feelie techniques that we now have to use in the States.

I think corporal punishment has NO place in the school systems no matter where the school is. This is a individials choice on if they choose to spank their kids or not. Personally I think sometimes this is whats wrong with Americas kids today. The parents refuse to disipline them and they get away with EVERYTHING because parents are afraid to spank them because everyone is all up in everyones elses business all the time and accuse them of abuse when there is a HUGE difference between abuse and spanking. I rarely EVER have to spank my kids. I think I've done it maybe 5 or 6 times in the whole time I've ever had kids (11 and 14) but some kids need it more than others imo. Back in the day parents were not afraid to spank their kids and in those days we didn't grow up with all the nasty rap music, an overload of drugs and crime, rape, robberym murder etc so what changed? A parents rights to raise their kids as they see fit and all these WIMPY parents out there that like to drive in peoples heads you should enver say no or spank your kid! Give a break!

It worked wonders when teachers were allowed to do it in the US.
Most of the complaints came from parents who didn't parent their children at home and didn't want them to be disciplined at school.
The "friend" parenting style is a crock and generally doesn't work. You can't reason with a person whose frontal lobe isn't fully developed, their rationalizations and decision making areas of the brain do not fully develop until your 20's.....

Probably right in India
Probably was right in US,when it was allowed.
Certainly were a lot less problems in the schools, when the muscles in your butt tightened everytime you thought about misbehaving...
The current solution seems to be wring hands, blame it on someone else, and play the low-self-esteem card...

i think it is excellent - it teaches to respect ' power ' thats why the generation now has no respect because they are not ' brought to heel ' I was when I was a child and I am young but that was in Europe in the 70s
