They're usually singing some kids song with demented words and trying to look all scary. To me it just seems like a joke.

I think they add a little bit more of the scare tactic b/c they are supposed to be cute and sweet but if you've met kids in real life sometimes they can be just as scary as those kids on scary movies.

You must not have children b/c I have a 3-year-old and some times she scares the crap out of me. I have always disliked children in movies singing kids songs but when they sing them they sound so creepy. I'm not sure why it is but I think sometimes since their minds are so open and they learn so quickly that we might be scared by their innocence. They are very capable of things we had no idea they could do. It's creepy..... very creepy..... We're usually the most frightened of things we don't understand and children are very complicated.

Sometimes those kids freak me out. Especially when they just stare right into the camera with a little grin. Like the Omen kid. He just looked scary. Kids are spooky sometimes.

I think its cos kids are meant to be all sweet and innocent (cough cough) so a freaky kinda kid should be a bit of a shock to the viewer.
Other than that ive absolutely no idea :)

Edit: Didnt see the previous post, sorry! (strange we used the same words though....)

because of the fact this "ought to" have befell to *you* if the monsters have been given you. as quickly as we are infants, we are terrorized by the gaping mouth and the beckoning, shadowy discern at night corner. there is an undefined terror and experience of no administration over the international, and this nonetheless lingers in our memory. to work out a newborn or toy possessed reminds us (subconsciously) what might have befell if we easily stepped into the darkish basement portal by the bottomless pit and our fears have been actual. And our fears *have been* actual.

i think because kids are supposed to be 'innocent' and 'sweet' so that they try to make a contrast to that with them behaving maliciously. (you have to suppose that the reason they are singing is to be creepy on purpose, not to be cute).
