"I Write the Songs" is a popular song written by Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys in 1975. The song was not recorded by The Beach Boys.

Barry wrote and collaborated with others to write many songs, not only for himself, but for other artists as well. Some of his writing talents include: Daybreak, Its A Miracle, Even Now, Copacabana, Bandstand Boogie, Beautiful Music, Could It Be Magic, This Ones For You, Because Its Christmas, and many more. Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys wrote "I Write The Songs", and no, they didn't record it.Just because a singer doesn't write all his songs, does not mean the songs are covers of someone elses recording. Some songs written were only recorded by one artist.

Bruce Johnston wrote this song. He was not an original member of The Beach Boys but joined the group in 1965. He also recorded for the studio group Sagittarius.

Technically, not a classic Beach Boys group song, but written separately by Bruce Johnston (who's still a member of the touring band today) way back in 1975. They have never recorded it, but many other people have. (Frank Sinatra changed it to "I sing the songs").

Old Bignose did, in his early years, actually write many of his own songs on his first few albums. The problem is that these tend to be overshadowed by better-known compositions like "Mandy", "Tryin’ to Get the Feeling Again", "Weekend in New England", "Looks Like We Made It", "Can't Smile Without You", and "Ready to Take a Chance Again" - all of which were penned by others.

Bruce Johnston, who joined the band as a touring member in 1965, wasn't in the band in 1973 when he wrote that song. He wrote many of his songs, but ironically he had no hand in "I Write The Songs."
