I asked some political questions today. The answers came in like a coin toss.

Heads - "I enthusiastically agree with you Matt!"

Tails - "I vehemently disagree with you Matt!"

Edge - "You're an idiot Matt!"

I'm amazed at how many times the coin lands on edge.

I can't be a politician because the heads and tails both sound good. People make excellent arguments either way. I don't know how anything gets done in politics.

Any thoughts?

If politics were like a coin toss, they'd tax you for every toss.

Other than that, you do have a point.

What's lacking in the discourse is clearly enunciated principles.

For example, what principle is behind the assumption that we should have a national health care program? What basic premise or premises does one have to hold to believe in this being proper? What principles totally contradict a national health care program?

If your politicians have no principles, or if you just don't know what they are, how do you know what they'll do next?

You toss a coin and have a 50-50 chance of being right.

I enthusiatically agree with you Matt.

The only thing is, that in US politics it doesn't really matter what side the coin falls because there isn't a great deal of difference betwixt either - despite what both sides will tell you.

There is no real left-wing party in the US. The Democrats are just not as right-wing as the Republicans.
The Dems are just a little to the right whereas the Repubs are just to the right of the Kaiser.

I have to with Heads on that one Matt! I think that's how politicians deal with all the pressure of decision making
Heads: "We go to war!"

Tails: "We raise up gas prices, due to war we caused!"

Edge: "We blame others for our mistakes!"

The politicians are doing the flipping and to the American people they say, "Heads I win, tails you lose".
