Why is it that people think that Congress as a whole (14% approval rating) is corrupt, a bunch of crooks, and a bunch of windbag, do-nothings, but when it comes to their representative or senator, he's the most caring effective one in the group?

Notice how many of them get re-elected time after time.

Because they KNOW him. He has spoken at their senior center or their kid's school. They saw him at he BBQ last month for the VFW and he marched in their city's Flag Day Parade. He is a known entity. It's all those "other" bums that are the problem... ;-)

I think all of them are corrupt. I don't trust the politicians that get elected. I detest the form letters I get back. If I had a BS meter, it would be off the charts I'm sure with those letters.

To the guy who posted above me, I detest the local and state government. I live in MA. They routinely ignore the will of the people. They do exactly what they want and really stick it to the taxpayers. I am a liberal but I'm sick of the corruption. I cannot afford to keep paying for it.

I for one, have never said that about my Congressmen. I am "represented" by Barbara Boxer & Diane Feinstein in the Senate and Susan Davis in the House. I want all three of them out.

Because it's true. You can count with the fingers of your left hand the only Congressmen of value. The rest are pandering, ambitious, fame-seekers. So on the average Congress IS corrupt.

Yes I've noticed that!

I am ashamed that Tommy Thompson, the guy largely responsible for working directly with Verichip Corp. ( the RFID chip makers), is from my state.

Perhaps Feingold can balance out the good-bad ratio?

I've got 2 corrupt do-nothings here in NY.
And all they can do is run more corrupt do-nothings against them.

I guess most feel that's better to deal with the devil you do know than the devil you don't.

I only think that they are a bunch of donothings because they really have no power since the patriot act. They reall dont control much or do anything unless the president and his lackies want them too. And for their silence and stress they get pay raises and health care. I dont like my senators either.

That's been one of my main complaints for years. If people really cared about corruption in Congress, then they would not vote for incumbents.

And if you don't want to vote for the other party, fine.Vote for your party's challenger in the primary.

In my opinion, and I consider myself to be a student of people, but this is my theory behind it.

People pick, and vote for names they recognize, and do not pick people associated with bad things.

On average, big government is viewed as bad.

Local government, is viewed as good.

Everyone knows big government is in it for themselves, lobbyists, political agendas, ear marks, it is all insane.

But local people , for the most part, dont view their local politicians as doing that, that "others" do it, not theirs.
