Almost any paint will work. Depends on the look you are after and where it will be displayed. Plaster can even go outside if it is painted with a good hard enamel (especially on the bottom) Oils, Acrylics, W/C, enamels (the most durable) I like to use chalk-artist pastels (smush them up and apply with fingers and brushes. Some items will need a good clear finish to protect and seal.

Water based so they soak into the plaster.
