It's refreshing these days to find girls at 12 actually acting like 12 year olds and not like 19 year olds! So you can enjoy her innocence for a little longer and let her choose the theme for her party.

My daughter just turned 12 last week. For the last year or so almost all the parties have been sleepovers. At this age they don't need a big party, just a few close friends. You can start with a game or craft (they still seem to like beading), then have pizza dinner. Try buying a few bright colors of nail polish and do pedicures or (if you're brave) let them polish each other's nails. My daughter and her friends love to do this. They always end up with assorted colors and patterns. Rent 2 or 3 movies and let them choose (less chance of babyish or too old). If there is a TV where they are sleeping, let them watch the movie in their sleeping bags with bowls of popcorn (and/or grapes or baby carrots). In the morning, something like chocolate chip pancakes is a big hit and then they go home (and you get to sleep!). Good luck.

1) Check if the nearest zoo in your area does birthday parties! The San Antonio zoo does a safari party with a "Zoo It Yourself Birthday Party" package. You receive a packet containing 10 entry tickets, 10 train tickets, 10 invitations, 10 vouchers for an ice cream and a coupon good for a birthday surprise from the gift-shop. Included is a specially designed Safari Guide full of information you can share with your guests as you lead your own birthday tour. . It's a little pricey (about $125 for members) but then again so is ordering pizza for a bunch of 12 year olds.
2) See if your local movie theater has matinee prices with a group rate, and invite all her friends to meet you at the theater. Then head over to Pizza Hut or some similar establishment for a party (we like Pizza Hut because the one here lets you reserve a section for a party so you can decorate, and they have an old-fashioned juke-box for music, and they have an arcade room with a ton of games.) This option is also pretty pricey overall
3) Slumber party camp out. Move the couch and tables out of your living-room and set up a tent in there. You can have dad grill burgers and dogs for dinner, and make S'mores. Activities include reading a selection from Edgar Allen Poe out-loud by flashlight.
4) Costume party! And have a fall festival, including bobbing for apples.

For my daughter we had an "Drive-in movie". but at the last minute we had to move the movie inside.
We printed money with her face in the middle $5.00 and had two of the girls older sisters ran the snack bar. It cost $1.00 for a slice of pizza or a Hot Dog. $1.00 for a drink with free refills. $1.00 for pop-corn with free refills and $1.00 for candy.
We went to the teacher store and got large stamp pads and a large amount of bulletin paper (red and gray) and put down a "red" carpet down the front walkway, and had her brother taking photos of the guests when they arrived. We put the gray paper down as "the cement for leaving their hand prints with the stamp pads.
Before the movie we played movie trivia and if they got a question right they left the room to pick a prize.
We had an intermission so they could have cake and just the restrooms. And after the boys left and a few of the girls stayed the night.
The only problem we had was picking one movie that everyone liked, but they all had a blast!

Why don't you let her go to town and watch a movie or go ice scating. Then after that she could have a sleepover and they could have a take-away. They could watch a film, then after that why don't you let your daughter and friends decide what to do.

There's so many options. Try mini golf, or my favorite Cosmic bowling. There's music, pizza and best of all, they clean it all up. Good luck.
