Any adult who wants to have children should at least be comfortable swimming and floating in a pool or other body of water. Most children enjoy going to the ocean/lake/pool or water park.

As for getting back into swimming, it is great for fitness and exercise if you can get to a pool on a regular basis. You will usually find that you improve greatly with regular practice or attendance if you swim with a group or team.

I was taught how to swim at a very young age. I'm 28 now and I think the last time a swam was at least a good 3 or 4 years ago. Swimming is like riding a bike...you'll never forget how!

Like anything else.
You learn and you never forget how.
But you can get rusty without using the skill.
It is good to swim when you can you never know when you will need to do it to save your life.
People get into situations with water. Like when a car goes into a canal, boat flips, bridge breaks, or you roll into a river. If you can swim and no how to get out of the car you can live.
I believe everyone should know enough for any situation they may find themselves in.
Use the pool at motels. Go a few times a month to the local pool. Talk a swim class for adults.

Stay in shape and keep up your swimming skills.

I learnt at 40 when my then young daughter was learning at school. Taking her swimming was a nightmare as I was terrified of the water!! I regularly swim some 20 miles a week now and wish I had done it years and years ago!!
