My brother is serving our country, and has access to email. It is obvious from his emails he wants us to write to him, but I dont know what to say. I dont really want to talk about good things going on here, because he might miss home even more. They cant really talk about what is going on there. I could really use some help. Serious answers only.

Firstly...You brother is a great man for doing this for us.

Secondly...Don't worry about what you write I am sure he would love to hear about the good things happening at home and also I am sure it would make him stronger to know you are all ok!

Thirdly...Just give him your love, best wishes and all the luck in the world :)

you shouldnt worry about what not to write. You should write to him telling him how much you miss him an the family misses him to and ask him how things are going. An tell him that things are going good down there and that your having a good time but it would be even better if he were here. He wont be sad that your having a good time he probley wants that for you and your family.
P.S: i saw this report that said in iraq there is big BIG bugs like somthing called a camel spider...make a conversation bout that and ask him if he has seen one.

Just talk to him via the letter as if he was there with you. Tell him how your day was and anything new going on. I think he'd like to hear that things are still normal and I don't think it would make him miss home more. Make sure you always tell him you're proud of him and you love him, but don't make too big a deal about him being over there, he just wants to hear some familiar, comforting words from you.

yes, talking about home will probably make him miss it....but it will also help him keep in touch with what's going on back home and not feel so far away.

my husband just got back from a 6 month det (USMC) and i didn't hold ANYTHING back when we talked. i told him every little detail b/c it kept us in each other's loop.
he told me about what he ate for lunch...i told him about the baby's new toy helicopter....didn't matter...it just kept us in the loop with each other.

so, when you write to him, talk to him about EVERYTHING you can think of. doesn't matter how small or "meaningless". are your kids taking afterschool activities? tell him about it.
does your car need repaired? tell him.
did the crazy lady at the flower shop do something funny.....

you catch my drift.
dont' forget to remind him how proud you are and that you can't imagine how difficult it must be.....don't try to relate to him...you can't. just listen and tell him that you would love to see some pictures or get his address and send him a care package....some good items:

-magazines
-DVDs
-chapstick
-tissues
-WET WIPES (sounds funny...my husband lived off these things....their water supply was hit...he "showered" with wet wipes for about 2 weeks)
-candy
-cookies
-snacks
-books
-disposable cameras
-games him and his buddies can play....cards, RC cars....
-batteries
-hanes t-shirts
-socks....nice compfy black socks..tall ones for boots.

-anything he asks for.

take care, and i hope he does too :)

hey, don't worry about what to write, we enjoy just getting news from home. talk about things that you use to talk about. He'll enjoy just hearing from you.
