Get some new ones. Bose makes some of the best in the world. You won't believe the sound from their size.

Few suggestions:

Cut out the drywall behind them and fit them part-way or entirely into the wall cavity. May suffer some degredation in sound due to early reflections but should still sound very good.

Build them into a bookcase or storage system, with the speakers flanking some shelves to make them look integrated into the room.

Find a new, slimmer speaker that fits the room better.

Edit - For goodness sakes, stay as far away from Bose as possible, so much better can be had for less money. Use your ears when speaker shopping, close those eyes. "Bose, better sound through marketing and litigation".

For about $600 and free shipping on eBay you can get a Klipsch 10" powered subwoofer and a Klipsch quintet system (4 satellites and one center channel) that will blow you away.

These satallites are tiny, and you can mount them on speaker stands or on the ceiling no problem. But, they produce so much volume and clarity you'll swear you're litening to a live performance (particularly vocals). The Klipsch subwoofer has a volume control, a low frequency cut-off control (at what frequency the subwoofer begins to produce bass), and a 180-degree phase control (in case the phase relationship between the satellites and the subwoofer are out of sync because of speaker placement). Once you tune this puppy to your room accoustics, you just forget about it and enjoy.

Also, avoid Bose. I got an Accoustamass 7 system that was about $700 and, after about 3 months, gave it to my wife's son and replaced it with the Klipsch system. I think Bose is muddy at the low end, nasally in the midrange, and tinny at the high end. I don't know why people like Bose speakers. Maybe it's just the name.

Large speakers are old school, 1980s status symbols. Toss them and invest in a surround sound system with a POWERED subwoofer. They range in price from about $200 to thousands. Even the $200 system will rival your ginormous speakers.

In this day and age, you can get smaller systems that do the same as the older big systems. How about checking out the shops to see what is on the market now.

invest in speakers from BOSE they make light weight speakers with premium sound. Sell your speakers on e-bay or a yard sale. Big bulky speakers are out of date.
