Americans, perhaps more than any other people, are quite content to discount or ignore US crimes, preferring instead to point out the more horrible crimes of others when backed into a corner. On an individual level, such behavior would be classified as being that of an enabler to a psychopathic sociopath. We have been raised to believe (and here’s the kicker – despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary) that America is exceptional. We are the best. At everything. And Americans, by and large, agree. Americans like thinking this. They like that our military kicks *** (conveniently forgetting that the military isn’t stupid, and doesn’t get involved fighting wars in ways that it cannot win. Remember, in modern times, it is the White House’s job to initiate war, but not for resource contests the military thinks it can’t win. [Iraq is a good example here. First the US armed, then US allies UK, UN (–whatever it takes) DISARMED Iraq, used the weapons inspectors as spies touring the country’s sites, then bombed, THEN INVADED, to get atop the oil, the ‘strategic resource’.] )
I believe that the fear/loathing of foreigners and difference campaign has worked so well in this country, that most are even (maybe secretly, even) proud to be in the Empire, believing again that they are the exception to the rule, a ‘free-citizen-subject’ of the worlds first benevolent Empire, out-doing even Rome. To believe such requires that the mind objectify others. Foreigners, and indeed the foreign way of life is practically unknown, and a ‘pragmatic’ distrust of ‘others’ as there is of ‘strangers’. They are objects, and we have no human connection to them. We can think anything we like about ‘them’, good or bad or evil, and their ‘strange-ness’ inate fear of the unknown, lends itself toward the dark. But few Americans have a passport. They have no idea. Few travel, and nearly none born here have ever lived anywhere else, so how could they know the difference? (The Europeans know. They know what war looks like. They remember what the Third Reich (with US help, btw: Ford, ITT, Standard Oil) and two World Wars did, what National-ism did. They too didn’t see the trap until it was too late. Britain once felt the same way. So did France before it, and Japan, and Spain at one time, and Persia, and Rome, and Athens. The US is not as exceptional as it would like to itself to believe. But the US is exceptional, but not in a pretty way, not in the way it presents itself to itself. There are many examples, but I will list four current ones: a. It is exceptional in acting in contradiction to the laws it lays down for itself and others to follow, treaties it signs, etc., with others only, subject to mortal threat; b. It is exceptional in its use of nuclear weapons, and outstanding in its use of WMD; c. It is exceptional in that it has established military colonies (over 750 of them) in nearly every country on the earth, denying the same courtesy to others, even our “allies”; d. It is exceptional in the success of its nationalist/militarist/capitalist propaganda, keeping the real information, the important information, and important decisions, out of the reach, out of sight, and not within the purview of We the People, using the veil of ‘reasons of military secrecy and national security’.
The sad thing is, Americans have really never had anything to fear.

EVERYONE has bad things in their past. Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, Australia, Etc.
North America is no different....
Except that We are much younger than most of them, yet have come so far, so fast.
Except that We refuse to move past...that which is in the past.
Except that We, at the verge of our greatest achievements, have to let the detractors in our own ranks, drag us >BACKWARD< instead of forward.....
I'm only a 2nd generation native born American. Most of my Grandparents came here to pursue a better, more prosperous life for themselves, and their children.
They came here, despite not fully knowing the language, customs, or exactly what to expect...relatively poor, foreigners....at a time when many of them were being actively discriminated against....
Their sons fought/served for this country (And freedom) in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam....Their grandkids have fought or served since then....proudly.
They came here, forsaking any sure future... to take the chance to belong to the greatest country the world has ever known....to fight to preserve it, and the freedom it represents.
I grew up in deepest darkest Detroit in the mid to late 1960's.
I've lived with the "Oppressed people" you speak of.
Their "Oppression" is >SELF INFLICTED!<
It comes from their own self limits, or that set upon them by their own (Self appointed) leaders......Not from outside.
I have seen the motivated, the forward-looking among them "Cast-out" by their culture, leaders, and media.
The very ones who are making something of themselves, Honestly..... are the Outcasts of their own culture.
I come from people who were in the same situation 3 generations ago.......but who worked hard, educated themselves, and provided a little better life/opportunity for their children.
After three generations, we aren't rich.....but we aren't living in a slum either.
It's not repression.........It's apathy/laziness.
This is the land of oppertunity....if you want it bad enough, and are willing to work for it......you can have ANYTHING you want.
So, YES....Pointing out a FALSE premise, to try to gain attention/sympathy/class envy....is Wrong & just plain LAME!

Whats the point of REHASHING mistakes over and over and over and over?
Why are Liberals incapable of MOVING ON?
Additionally, it is the Left that keeps our black citizens on the plantation.
The left has utterly destroyed ENTIRE generations of Black Americans by their perpetual victim garbage and the fomentation of class warfare.
"You can't succeed in the world because of whitey. Whitey controls your life. Whitey decides what you will be in this life. You are OWED a LOT from whitey. You are like children and must be treated as such."
What garbage.
The ONLY hope I see is that there is a THRIVING and GROWING Black Middle Class that rejects such bull ****.
Even under oppression people like Fredrick Douglas, W.E.B. Dubois, and Harriet Tubman were able to succeed in a viciously racist society.
We do not now live in a viciously racist society, therefore the opportunities are 100 times richer. The institutionalized, generational welfare state perpetuated by the left has absolutely ruined the idea that Black American's can make opportunities for themselves and actually THRIVE in this country.
I know they can and a growing portion of them know they can and yet they are being held down by the old ideas of their own racist, so-called leaders.
It is quite saddening.
