I would get her a few potted plants like orchid, african violet or mini rose bush that way it lasts for a long time instead of cut flowers from the florist!

Not roses, they died so quickly, so the pleasure is short. (Pink) Lily is an absolutley fantastic flower, they open up in a vase and the smell in the entire room is so sweet. People not only admire the flower, but also the beautiful smell. A tip is when the flowers open, pull off the red pollen sacks, as they can easily stain and this also makes the flower last longer. If possible, change the water daily, and in that way the flowers can last up to 2 weeks. This was the flower of the french royality. I hope your Mum has a fantastic birthday.

Go to a florists' shop and look at the flowers they have in stock. Find some flowers that you really like, and pick a color that is your mothers' favorite. I pick out flowers that I like, then ask the florist to make an arrangement with them. They will fill in around the flowers with fern or other appropriate materials.
You can ask which flowers are really fresh, that way they will last longer after your mother receives them. Roses in pastel shades are really nice, but tend to not last very long. Carnations or Snapdragons last a long time if they are fresh. There are so many new flowers on the market these days that there are many choices.
You can also have the plants put in a vase of your choice. That vase can be anything that will hold water. A coffee mug, tea cup, beer stein, crystal bowl, or anything else will work, fancy or not. The "vase" will last for a long time after the flowers have faded away, and can make a nice keepsake.

I think you should ring the florist, they normally ask you what colours your Mum will like and then they normally come up with something spectacular. I always think that it's really nice to ask the florist to deliver a bouquet to the door because it's always such a wonderful surprise. It costs a bit more but it'll be well worth it just to see the pleasure on your Mum's face.

I would be thrilled at any time to recieve a hand picked, wild flower bouquet. A monster big one.
Can you french braid? Try doing daisies and make her a crown....contact my avatar for the "finishing" secret. When it begins to wilt, just toss it in a container of water for a while.
How about buying her favorite potted perennial?
How about a belated birthday susrprise from SC? Have cuttings, will mail them to her.
What a beautiful young person you are.

Have her favorite flower(s) sealed in a glass container. This way they will be preserved whereas fresh flowers only last a few days. Most of the time the memory of fresh flowers pass away after they die but a preserved flower last for years.
