Hi there,
For the most part you'll find Atlanta is known for many of the southern persuasions, such as hominy grits, very big on anything barbecue, crabcakes, cornbreads, homemade biscuits and gravy, these are some mainstays that I've found to be offered in quite a few restaurants.

That's so funny. I just googled the same question because my friends and I (AZ Cardinals fans) always make food that is indicitive of whoever the Cardinals are playing. we call it "Eating the other teams mojo!". unfortunately, it's not working.
St. Louis - BBQ Ribs and Pulled Pork
New Orleans - jambalaya and other cajun apps
Tampa Bay - Cuban Sandwiches and ceviche
Seattle - Lobster/Crab/Seafood boil with Coffee
San Francisco - We had a sausage party, German, Italian, polish, hotdogs... (referencing the gay thing.. not that there's anything wrong with that).
Fun stuff. We play atlanta this weekend.

If you're planning a weekend trip to Atlanta, I just HAVE to assume that you are going to visit the Georgia Aquarium. Right next to it down town is Legal Seafoods. It is a large national chain, but it's pretty food for families. Think of it is a upscale-casual version of Red Lobster.

Right downtown next to Georgia Tech and Interstate 75/85 is The Varsity. It's been there forever - Have a chili/slaw dog. Eat inside or in your car.

Well technically Georgia is a southern state so southern food such as fried chicken, mash potatoes, and sweet tea is what you would typically think of.
Another idea would be seafood because of its location. So there is a great deal of things for you to cook up. Bon Apetite.
