I think its pretty, but i can also see a lot of mean comments being made about it.. unfortunately kids these days are mean.

In some cultures, Hortense is considered to be a common and beautiful name. I, unfortunately, don't prefer it because a number of my books when I was younger used a form of the name as the name of the villain or "witch". It's a personal thing. Plus, in the English language there is the word "whore", which is what some children might use as a demeaning nickname for Hortense.

No, because people will make fun of a person named Hortense because of the portion that sounds like Whore.

Unless its a family name with a significant meaning to you I would not name my child that, children are cruel and as you can imagine the torture that the child would go through in school and life. You would have to come up with some pretty good nick names for the baby!

How would you feel if your mother named you anything with a syllable in it pronounced like "whore"? It's an awful name.

It depends in what culture it comes from but think of that child do you really want him to hate his name or get bullied make him your child not a bullies prey!!! take my advice i hope it helps!! : D

Honestly NOOOOO! I don't personally like the name, I think it sounds funny and the kids is going to get teased immensly for it. He will also get prejudged, before people even get a chance to meet him. Please don't do it

It doesn't sound that nice. The first syllable says "whore," which is so bad on many levels.
