I think he is being a baby...the story is that he refuses to go on the view b/c he doesnt want to be interviewed by Elizabeth, b/c he is a democrate and she is not.....I think its a bit babyish, I mean honestly she seems to be a very nice lady and if they steer the conversation away from political beliefs what does he have to be scared of? I dont think she would sit there and badger him over and over if thats not where the conversation is. I, personally, feel he is afraid to have that he can not back himself up and therefore, is scared to even get caught in that situation.....I am not and have never been a Manilow fan but he just made himself even smaller in my eyes...what do you think?

Kelly B...the point is that he must not be able to back his stance up. He must be afraid of the "big bad conservative lady"

Dan W...I would like for all celebs to keep their nose outta politics, but the point is he was being a whining baby b/c he requested to be interviewed by all except Elizabeth, while I am glad they refused to leave her out, I think its dumb for him to a made politics part of it. HE is the one who brought the subject up, NOT Elizabeth.

Barry bowed out...he said so himself...""I had made a request that I be interviewed by (co-hosts) Joy (Behar), Barbara (Walters) or Whoopi (Goldberg), but not Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Unfortunately, the show was not willing to accommodate this simple request so I bowed out," he said in a statement on his Web site (http://www.manilow.com)"

He's a coward and he probably doesn't have the convictions of his own beliefs. Personally, I couldn't care less than I do about the political convictions of entertainers. After all, it ain't like they're deep thinkers to begin with.

Barry was booked to go on The View to discuss and promote his 'new' album (made up of old songs, of course). The View dropped him (he didn't back out) because he tried to dictate who would be allowed to interview him. What do Elisabeth Hasselbeck's politics have to do with Barry Manilow's music? Nothing. He's a bleeding heart liberal who has contributed the maximum amount allowed to each of the Democratic presidential candidates' campaign funds and he thinks he's "making a statement" by not allowing a right wing conservative to interview him. Give me a break! The man is a moron. Would the conversation have veered over to politics? Possibly. So what? What is he afraid of? I bet Barry doesn't have a problem with conservatives buying his albums or attending his concerts! What a jerk. I think it's much more interesting to watch an interview when the interviewer and interviewee have different points of view. How boring to sit around and watch everyone agree all the time! Barry needs to grow up.

If a person was asked to go on the following shows Oprah, Jay Leno, David Letterman, or Larrg KIng LIve ESPN whatever, anyways if celebrity has right to turn them down, Maybe Barry Manilow has a busy schedule does not have time for the view. So its up to a everyday regular person or a celibrity star to whether to go a live show like the view, if they say No have that right not to go

He's a disappointment and a disgrace, considering that he made a very good living (from conservatives and their hard-earned money) singing about peace and love and unity and always tells his fans to "be nice." Obviously Mr. Manilow does not practice what he preaches. What a phony.

He owes ALL the ladies of The View -- especially Elisabeth -- an apology for being such an egotistical prick. Shame on him, a 64-year-old "man" who should know better.

And guess what, Barry? A true professional honors his commitments without b*tchin about it, and a true gentleman is gracious even to those with whom he disagrees. Manilow is neither professional nor gentlemanly.

Not surprised at all.

The top democratic candidates refuse to be interviewed on Fox or attend any debate sponsored by Fox. Barry might have feared being asked a tough question.

If Manilow can't back up his politics, he doesn't need to do anything. First off, the ONLY reason he is on there is to promote his new album of REHASH. Why did he bring POLITICS into it? Someone answer me that. I think, or at least I hope, Ms. Hasselbeck would not get into a political discussion. Keep it on the topic of his music. Now, I got 100 bucks that says, when she leaves to have the baby, Mr. manilow will show up. Any takers?

I wonder if Manilow will put out a statement saying he doesn't want anybody that doesn't agree with his politics not to buy his recordings or bother attending his concerts.

Sheesh... if he can't handle Elizabeth (not exactly a William F. Buckley or a Bill o'Reilly in the conservative arsenal)....he must not have much confidence in himself.

I'm sure they could arrange a one on one with Whoopi. I can't believe this terrible show is even still on the air. I have trouble answering this as I hold Barry and the View in equally low esteem.

When will entertainers figure out we just want their entertainment - not their politics! Until they do - no dollars from me.

Hmm...Barry Manilow, someone I like to call Barely Manenough. I think it's sort of funny. Elizabeth is no doubt a right winger, but big deal. He's being ridiculous, as you said they don't even have to talk politics. Maybe this is his way of trying to present himself as politically relevant. It didn't work, get the hook.

He's exercising his right to free speech, only in this case, he's choosing to be quiet. I don't blame him at all for rrefusing to go on The View, and as a matter of fact, I admire him for it. He's a great singer, a great songwriter and frankly, I think he has a great attitude for wanting to remain above the garbage that talk TV really is.

EDIT: So he's a whining baby for standing up for his beliefs and his friends? I can't stand Rosie O'Donnell, but Barry Manilow is friends with her and he is standing by her, something I do for my friends and would expect nothing less from them. A whining baby indeed. It's a whining baby who spits out a belief and then refuses to back it up through ACTIONS.
