I live in Newfoundland and I love watching whales in the summer. If you go to Cape Spear and stand by the water you can see lots of humpbacks, Minkes, and fins for no cost at all. Best of all you're on shore so there is no impact on the whales. You can see the humpbacks jump and everything. sometimes you even see Potheads or dolphins. Where ever you decide to go get informed prior to going on a tour. Make sure you know any regulations in there area. Make sure you go with a tour group that has a good reputation with both whale researchers and tourists. You don't want a group that chases whales or disrupt them. After all you're paying to see happy whales in the wild not stressed animals.

Yes it was crazy... It was mating season and an older whale and a young whale were courting a female. The kept swimming around and under the boat. They had to turn of the motor and we where stuck there for 1.5 hours. After awhile it was like of there is another whale a few feet from us. Another boat had to come and the hum of there motor attracted them over.

Whale watching ships pass by my home 100 times a week - and they board and disembark one mile from here, and yet, I have never been on a whale watch cruise.
Frankly, not all that interested...

Yes we were on our honeymoon in Cape Ann, Massachusetts. The whales breeched right in front of our boat. Very majestic.

not officially, but I've seen em while out sailing, and one Orca did a fly by as I was scuba diving in the San Juan Islands up in the Pacific NW. It was cool later on, spooky as hell when it happened.
