Die, then get reincarnated as a mythical creature. (Reminder, their is really no such creature as a Native American)

Obviously this is an attempt at making a statement about Native Americans getting "government goodies", as Paula Revere put it. A lame attempt, I should say. Not that you'd get it, but here's a pretty good definition of the Native American experience:

repressed
1 a : to check by or as if by pressure : CURB
b: to put down by force : SUBDUE
2: to prevent the natural or normal expression, activity, or development of
3 : to exclude from consciousness

First off, I beg to differ with hibernianarcher----any person who was already HERE on this land when it was "discovered" are classified as "native American's" and anyone who is a descendent of these people is classified as "native American's" as welll----(if you remember, they used to be called "Indians").... that said, UNLESS you were BORN with a good percentage of American Indian heritage, you cannot just CHANGE YOUR RACE.... you were either born part or full native american or your were NOT.... it's like if you are white but have 1/8th african american in you, you would still be caucasian. if you had 1/2, you could be either--so it depends on the percentage you have IF you have any.... but no one who was born without ANY native American ancestors can claim legally or change their race to Native American.

I am 1/2 native, but haveno way to prove it other than word of mouth from my family. I am 5th generation from a chief on my fathers side. Both my paternal and maternal grandmothers were full blooded Cherokee. I have always had to claim white/caucasian on gov forms since I have no documentation. Trust me, if I could find a way to prove/document my heritage, I would do it. Think of all the assistance I would/could get for school alone!

I think I am really whats called Appalachian. But they dont have that on gov forms either!

good luck.

Good Luck

If you are referring to changing it for government reporting such as state or federal for benefits, or your birth certificate I suggest that you contact the state government where you were born. You will probably need some sort of documentation or evidence.

well, if you truly are native american, then you'd have to get proof that your ancestors were,(birth certificates, tribal memberships) and then you might, (again might) be able to get a CDIB card proving your native american heritage.

Hum that is interesting. I guess you would have to prove it to your state. Then color in the indian box instead of white.

You can't. You have to have certified blood lineage by a tribal commission.

Wishing you had special rights based on the color of your skin eh?
