I got a set of 4 coins in a wooden box with Christopher Columbus, Las Tres Carabelas, Isabel La Catolica, & Santa Maria. One on each one of the coins. Each one has 500 on the back of the coin.

I got this set while helping someone move. I have searched on the net, but didn't come up with anything. Can anyone tell me where I can find info. on these coins ? Thanks

Are you sure they are silver and not copper or brass colored. I have seen those sets for I have one. They are actually medals commemorating the 500th anniversary of Columbus discovering America. . The set I have was made in Spain in 1992. It is very likely that they also made the set in silver. I doubt you will get any more for it than silver value. I got my set at a flea market for a few dollars. I collect historic coins as well as medals and tokens. There should have been a leaflet with it explaining what it is. You might go to google and find the web sites of the Spanish mints and check with them. I believe they do have an English language area. Hope this helps some.

Without seeing pictures it's very difficult for anyone to give you a good answer. A lot depends on the condition of your coin.

1 - Take your coin to a local coin dealer (trustworthy ones can be found - shop around, get second opinions). It never hurts to get a second opinion. They will be able to tell you so much more by evaluation the condition of the coin. They will also know the amount minted and what it is going for in today's market.

2 - Try posting pictures on this website (there are many experts here that can help you evaluate it - there also may be people willing to buy if you are trying to sell):

3 - Repost this question and include pictures. You can use websites like photobucket.com and include the link in your question.

Good luck!

P.S. Do not clean your coin as this can drastically effect the value.
