How would you know what love is if you never loved before.

Sure it's a great gift in life to be loved, however, that same love can work against you and wind up hurting you due to a break-up, which could have been avoided by the following....
If a person never knew what love was, there would not be any emotional hurt.
Personally, I would rather have loved and lost it....

That question has never made sense to me. If you've never loved, you don't know what you're missing. If you HAVE loved and lost, then you're heartbroken and you can't stop listening to country music songs and eating Ben&Jerry's ice cream and watching sappy movies.
It's much simpler and less time- and calorie-consuming to never have loved.

It would depend on the circumstances. To loose the love of one's life to death..... it is better to have loved. To loose the love of one's life to another person who your love considers better in some way, is indeed a tragedy, and should be avoided.
