Honest. I have lost a very dear and good friend that way. But it was the right and human thing to do.

To be honest with you, honesty is not always the best policy and it's true that you can lose a friend by being honest or too honest.

I think the question you have to ask yourself is whether or not you want to keep your friend. If you know in advance, that being honest will result in the loss of your friend, then it's better to say nothing.

Of course, there are exceptions to this rule and I don't know what the problem is, so it's hard to say exactly what would be the best course of action.

Depends on what the issue is. If it's life or death or concerns an addiction, then yes, I'd rather lose a friend or have them hate me than to have them hurt or in trouble.

As far as "significant other" issues like knowing about affairs and such; I'm not sure what I'd do in that situation. The shame of it is, you’ll tell the friend and they may be grateful at the time, but the friend will usually make-up and get back together with the significant other, and you're still out a friend. So that's kind of no-win situation.

As for issues concerning yourself, you should always be honest in your feelings and thoughts and ideas. Always be yourself. You can’t go wrong with that.

Be honest & be a friend at the risk of losing that friend because the truth always comes out one way or another. If you keep quiet, the issue may end up hurting your friend more in the end than if they had known in the beginning.

You should always be honest with your friends even if it really hurts them. You would want the same from them. If they are a true friend they might be mad at first, then understand later that you were just tring to be a good friend. A true friend is always there when you need them the most! So after you tell them make sure they know you there for them

I would much rather that a friend be honest with me - even if it may hurt me. Sure, I'll probably be mad for awhile but then the anger will subside and I would have more respect for that person for being honest with me.

Honest.....If you lose a friend over honesty then they weren't really your friend to begin with.
