I'm not convinced with the answers - because why do I get the largest half of the drinks round and the smallest half of the treacle tart ? Am I still being (I've forgotten how to spell pedantic) obstruse?

Proof:-

In Roman numerals '12' is representedby XII

By Cutting XII across the Middle {Horizontally} [i.e. Halving the Roman Numeral] gives us VII which, we all recognise, represents '7'

half a dozen of the other is "sechs" in German, does this help?
Maybe you should stick to drinking in odd number groups. e.g. 11 people making a group of 6 and a group of 5.
If you accidentally end up in the group of 6, quickly join the group of 5. Trust me, it'll work, my maths teacher told me that I was special.
Now, whats this about tarts? hubba hubba

Stop letting other people decide about what you should receive, and take it.

12/2 = 6

There's no such thing as a 'large' or 'small' half; halves are equal otherwise they wouldn't be halves. I think the word you're looking for is obtuse.

Oh you poor thing. In your case it is 5. Wink. It is six or half a dozen.
