You are being asked to settle for too cheap an amount. If you hire a personal injury lawyer, he could get you more. You would end up with more even after paying his fee.

If you had medical expenses covered by your personal health insurance, the subrogation provision of that policy would require you to reimburse the health insurance compay for that portion you recover from the SUV driver.

Be honest about what your injuries are. You should continue to see a doctor or orthopedic specialist if you are in pain. Often symptoms of low back pain will appear AFTER the accident.

I would recommend you get a free consultation with a personal injury lawyer, then make a decision. Be aware that he may want to have you sign a contract for him to represent you. Get good advice. You may be able to do better than just $500.

You had NO broken bones? Just a BUMP on your hip???? and you want to SUE!!! First off, your medical bills were paid and you DID get $500.00 extra.... if that is what you settled for, you obviously signed a piece of paper with the words similar to these... "I accept this settlement".... therefore you cannot come back and sue after you have accepted the settlement and SIGNED off on it... SHOULD you have sued? I wouldn't have----because I have medical insurance to take care of anything that happens to me later in life REGARDLESS of how it started or when. If you had broken a bone, or had to have rehabilitation or a long hospital stay or physical therapy, THEN I might have CONSIDERED suing---but then again, that IS why most of us have HEALTH INSURANCE.... rates would not be so outrageously high IF people with minor injuries didn't think they could get rich quick off of lawsuits.

On the one hand, this might be percieved as having little or no ethics.

On the other, you may have a lingering injury that only shows itself over time.

I was in a car wreck when I was 17, and it was 10 years later before I discovered that it had caused a spinal injury.

In short...GET PAID NOW! Get everything you can, while you can. Life may hand you some sour lemons a little later on down the road. Best to be prepared for it.

Run, don't walk, to a personal injury attorney.
