Specifically, with hotmail? If it is possible, how do I change me settings to alert me when an email has been read?

You could try program, Didtheyreadit.com. First 10 emails are free, but then you willl have to buy it.

There is no way with Internet mail to be able to tell when a person has read an e-mail. That option is available with most corporate mail because the e-mail stays within a single system so that the system can track it. But with Internet mail (such as MSN) as soon as it leaves MSN to go to Yahoo.com or AOL.com or Hotmail.com, etc., MSN is no longer able to track what happens to it.
