Confident is knowing that you having something to bring to the table. An example would be approaching someone of the opposite sex and doing so without fear. ********* is when you approach that person of the opposite sex and assume that you have the whole thing in the bag.

In a word, arrogance. If you offensively act superior, then that is cocky. If you have high self esteem and are sure of yourself, then that is confident. Make sense?

Confidence is having faith in yourself. Being cocky is when you make assumptions about other people's abilities.
