Most 401K plans have several investment options, and tell you which ones are more speculative than others. If you're relatively young, you need to be in something with growth potential.

Check with your 401K plan administrator if you don't have a list of the options your plan has. Then fill out the form to change your investment options. Many plans let you make that type of change online.

You will want to get a basic education on mutual funds. Here are some good sources of info:

1) Mutual Funds for Dummies, by Eric Tyson. Best book on mutual fund investing, IMO.

2) Free eBook at http://www.invest-for-retirement.com

3) The Boglehead's Guide to Investing

4) http://www.investopedia.com

See what your options are with the firm your company uses for the 401K - you can take that percentage you contribute and have that split up and allocated in to anything from moderate to agressive.
