Yes. The entire economy would collapse without algebra. No joke.

Not for most. The only time you really need algebra is maybe as an engineer or a scientist. otherwise it's useless and frustrating to those of us who struggle with math. When I was in my early 20's I was going to a community college and I had pre-algebra. I had to drop the class, and that's after I worked with five different tutors to get it!! Then I had to take it again about two years ago to finish my B.S.. On the first day when the teacher asked how we all liked math and told us she'd get us through it, I raised my hand and said, "yeah, well, I'll be the one cowering in the corner of the room wrapped in the fetal position!"
But, honestly, no. Most of us don't need algebra and probably won't ever use it again.
Did you know that kids are beginning to learn algebraic process in FIRST GRADE now?! Insane!

Okay, let me explain why it should be important to you.
You want to buy a $300,000 house. Should you put 10% down, pay one point and accept a 30-year fixed rate loan at 5.75% or should you put down 15%, pay two points, and accept a 20 year adjustable rate loan starting at 4.5% and growing at a specified percentage after seven years?
Yeah, yeah...you'll tell me the loan officer will explain it all to you...right?
Well, can you trust the loan officer? Who's going to look out for your financial interests? Remember, it's your money. The loan officer works for the bank, not you.
If you don't know some algebra, you'll go through life having people put things over on you. And you'll pay the price.

Algebra 's important utility related to numerous professional fields is not the most important thing to be learned in algebra class!!!!
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO BE LEARNED IN ALGEBRA CLASS IS THAT THERE CAN BE MORE THAN ONE ANSWER TO ANY GIVEN PROBLEM!!!!( This allegory to mathematics has great usefulness far beyond the limits of algebra!!!!)

Yes - it helps you develop many different problem solving skills - it's not just about the numbers. Eventually you will need to buy things, pay rent and calculate interest that equation would be one example of algebra. It may be tricky to grasp but it will offer you a skill that will enable you to save money and depending on your job, possibly make more money.
