You go to a lot of classes that have nothing to do with theatre and you do a lot of stuff as a theatre major that has nothing to do with acting.

Well, first of all, being a theatre major is anything but typical! No two days are the same...it would take forever to explain, but here's my opinion...
When I was in college, I was pretty much at school from 9 am to 11 pm or Midnight...classes, rehearsals, studying, meetings, etc...
As far as exercises and activities, it depends on where you go and what track you decide to follow...Performance or Tech (or Education if you're theatre department offers it). If it's Acting, it's going to depend on what technique your professors are trained in and you will do exercises accordingly. In the first few years of my acting classes, we focused on Stanislavsky and similar methods....but my Senior year we got a professor who was trained in Meisner, so we did a lot of work with repetition and inependant activites. I wish I had done more with it earilier!
You will also have to take classes in movement, voice, and technical design. At my school, even 'techies' had to take a couple acting classes and most of them even wanted to take dance or voice classes.
And of course rehearsals! Those are usually 5-6 nights a week...you will practically live in the theatre or the school. And professors expect you to still keep up with your assignments and be in class every day and on time. We were actually allowed only 1 or 2 absences each semester...as compared to the 5 or 6 our core professors allowed!
Ah, core classes...math, english, history...you'll have those too. I dropped a science class 3 times b/c my theatre schedule was too hectic for me to study...I ended up taking it over the summer when i didn't have much going on!
It's also hard to hold down a part-time job b/c of rehearsals, so either save whatever money you get now or hope to find one that is flexible!
Um...yeah....that's all I got for now...but I'm sure there's more! HaHa!
