Depends on the mechanic or how busy is the shop. I can do a 94 Grand Prix all 4 brakes in a Hour with some basic tools.

Next time you need to mention what kind of car or truck you have, and if just the pads need to be replaced. Normally no more than 1 to 2 hours is more than enough time to change brake pads. Always ask for the old parts back when replacing anything on your car. This will keep the mechanic honest and not charge you for something he did not do.

The time line depends upon if your rotors can be saved by re-machining. If not you'll need replacements using American, Canadian or British brands such as Napa's best, Carquest's best, AC Delco, Wagner, or EBC (British). Cheap inexpensive off -shore rotors are literally worthless. They rust, corrode and warp easily. If you plan on driving your car for two yrs. or more they are a bad investment. Ceramic and Organic based brake pads are by far the cleanest and do not grind and damage brake rotors as do metallic and semi-metallic pads. Don't cut corners on any of these suggestions. You'll be doing everything again in two yrs. if you do.

depends on what needs to be replaced.pads, rotors, etc. so I would say expect at least 1 hour from the time the mechanic decides what replacement parts to order and receives the parts. So from here there is no definite answer!

If you're getting someone with experience to do it, it shouldn't last for very long, it'll take about 45 mins to about an hour, more than that then you've probably been too patient or you didn't get the right kind of help, but you should also monitor the labor, as to make sure you got your money's worth, if you got plenty of time and money, hire someone who'll finish it in about...hmm..lets say in 2.5 beers tops.

Between 10 minutes and 10 hours!

What car is it for, and is it front or rear pads that need changing.

depends how bad your brakes are if they are metal to metal or if you have a leak in a caliper or something major it could take time to get parts if its just the pads and no other problems no more than two hours max

Even if they 'turn' the rotors & drums 1 hour should do it.
