It just proves the ACLU is a good organization and the republicans will take advantage of anyone that they think will help them.

The ACLU has defended the Ku Klux Klan, the American Nazi Party, and any number of communists. The idea is that you don't prosecute someone for expressing political thought or being the wrong sort of person, regardless of your personal feelings on the issue. They've been very consistent on this issue. Most Republicans, after they think about it, are not opposed to the ACLU, which works to counteract unbridled police power in the US.
Unfortunately, the ACLU has lately chosen to raise funds from its more left-leaning supporters, and has adopted a highly-biased advertising campaign to do so. However, the core function of the organization remains as it always was, and it's worth supporting.

Number one, Craig's rights were violated.
Number two, the ACLU should STILL be disbanded.
Number three, liberals only like the ACLU when it's fighting a liberal cause.
Number four, I don't think the ACLU should be helping Craig because of number two above. You will NOT catch me, a dyed-in-the-wool conservative, being a hypocrite and saying the ACLU should be helping Craig, because I still believe the ACLU is evil, along with the cop who "interrogated" Craig after arresting him in a public crapper for moving his foot in some way.
Number 5, Is it the Republicans you're calling hypocritical, or your own ACLU, which suddenly is supposed to help anyone but a Republican?

Where did you get your info?
I believe Craig can afford his own attorney. If the ACLU is involved in this case it's probably only as an outside "friend of the court" that wasn't asked by Craig for any assistance. Happens all the time.

The ACLU is an organization of integrity that stays true to defending the civil liberties of all regardless of their religious, social views or political orientation. If basic civil rights are being violated, they will step in to assist in defending the victims.
Republicans don’t like anyone or any organization that opposes them on anything so they very effectively attack and denigrate all such persons or organizations. That doesn’t preclude their talking out of the other side of their mouths or taking advantage, when convenient.

Republicans do not in general hate the ACLU. Conservatives tend to mock them and some of their actions but are happy to accept their help when they get into a jam.

The Republicans hate the ACLU but the ACLU helps defend the rights of everyone, regardless of politics or guilt. If guilty people lose their rights, then so does everyone.

In both cases, the people were guilty. This isn't even something the ACLU should be involved in.
