why do people talk about questions in Yahoo Answers as being purely subjective? especially in a way that makes it seem that they are criticising the question based on its subjectivity?

The whole purpose of asking non-technical (like math) questions in Yahoo Answers is to get a variety of Purely Subjective responses. Some people just don't get it.

By the way, before Abraham Lincoln, if it weren't for Jean Lafitte, there wouldn't be a USA. Who cares that the battle of New Orleans took place after the war of 1812 was officially over. If we had lost it, you can be sure the British would have renewed hostilities.

The Father of Our Country, George Washington. Fascinating life. I'd also add Benjamin Franklin, Davy Crockett, Andrew Carnegie, Teddy Roosevelt, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe and Jim Thorpe.

If it is in history, that precludes fictional. This is a truly subjective question, and everyone would have their own ideas, largely based in their own priorities. Washington and Lincoln are obvious choices. For women's rights, Elizabeth Stanton, and Susan Anthony would come to mind. For the military, Robert E. Lee, U.S. Grant, Patton, Eisenhower, all would be contenders. In finance and industry, Henry Ford, Carnegie, J. P. Morgan, and the list goes on.

Isn't this an overly subjective question? I would think that whomever I find to be the "most interesting" isn't going to be the same as whom anyone else chooses. Consider that the posters' answers below below run the gamut from Babe the Blue Ox to Paris Hilton to Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Perhaps you should ask yourself, "who most interests me?" and then ask for details from there?
