I have to be able to work in multiple programs simultaneously but that's my only requirement. I can keep from saving songs and photos. I don't play graphic intensive games. Occassionally I download and edit movies from my camcorder.

Will the cheap $699 work?

You could probably get away with the less expensive one. Try and find one that has some upgrade possibilities just in case you need to get more out of it later. Ask the sales rep if it has upgrade capabilities like PCI or PCI-E slots, total memory, expansion slots and bays.

Hope this helps

$699 ain't cheap. You can get Dell with a 17" lcd monitor for $350. If you bought the most expensive computer you could find you wouldn't notice that much difference for what you do.

I always tell ppl by one thats one level above what youre doing right now because ppls needs change and depending on your age you might want to learn more and do more with your computers. the price youre showing - I would say go for it if its just for the tower, but if its for a whole package maybe you should go a bit up. Alot of places have financing and you can get your computer with no interest or no payments or both at places. For what you said about yourself i would deffenitely recomend 2 gigs of RAM and a dual core processor either AMD X2 or intel core 2 duo just for your video editing but they should also take care of you for a while.

Get the cheapest with a minimum of 2GBs of RAM and a C2D t7100 CPU. Probably a configured Dell Vostro.

I suggest buying the best one you can afford - it will last longer without having to be upgraded or scrapped. Cheaper machines may use older style parts that will be obsolete in a year or two.
